Last Friday, the Montana Legislature adjourned after rejecting Governor Bullock’s proposed amendments to House Bill 494, the restaurant carry bill. HB 494 would allow law-abiding Montanans to carry a firearm for self-defense while patronizing a restaurant where alcohol is not the primary item of sale. An individual should not be prevented from carrying a firearm for self-defense while dining in a restaurant that serves alcohol. The right to self-defense should not be unnecessarily banned due to the presence of a product that is legally sold in an establishment that is licensed to do so.
